The aim of this Urtext is to present as far as is possible the text and notation that reflects most completely the original intentions of the composer, drawing upon the most important sources. The pieces included are: Three Nocturnes Op.9, Three Nocturnes Op.15, Two Nocturnes Op.27, Two Nocturnes Op.32, Two Nocturnes Op.37, Two Nocturnes Op.48, Two Nocturnes Op.55, Two Nocturnes Op.62, Nocturne B1 49, Nocturne Op. post.72, and Nocturne B1 108. Chopin's original manuscripts, the French and German first editions, and the surviving contemporary handwritten copies have been restricted only to those exceptional cases where they are obviously necessary. A section of notes details the discrepancies between sources.
